Shopping in Leeds

Outside the city of Leeds is Pudsey which has a great Owlcoates Shopping centre which looks after the entire western part of the city. Morley is packed full of shops and it is where the Leeds Exhibiton centre is located. The most popular of the lot is the White Rose Centre, which is a massive out of town retail park that attracts customers from miles around.

The city centre is very attractive and much of it is pedestrianised which brings much more calmness to the centre and relieves the shopper from the stressful traffic driving through the city. Leeds is considered the premier shopping centre of North England and with centres like the Victoria Quarter and the Corn Exchange, which have a great mix of luxury shops, malls and traditional markets all blended together to give the shopper as much choice as possible. It also boasts that it plays host to Harvey Nichols Department store which is the first store outside of London. The coffee bar at Harvey Nichols is worth a stop off for a nice cup of coffee, or else try the Cafe Uno or the Bagel Bar for a refreshing break.

And besides shopping in Harvey Nichols, one can also check out the Thorntons and Queens Arcades that have great independent shops selling everything from leather goods to designer jewellery and photographic equipment. There is also Lands Lane which runs over the arcades and is where the High Street shipping nirvana is and its all pedestrianised. Headrow Shopping Centre is across the road from the Leeds Shopping Plaza which is located on Commercial Street.

Here one will find the HMV, Virgin, Oasis, Boots, WH Smith, Next and many more of the popular shops. The weekends around here are pretty busy and even on workdays one may have to fight for the bargains. The Leeds Light Complex is hoping to woo as much shoppers from around the city and offer a great shopping experience with lots of restaurants and bars also. The Briggate and New Briggate make up the area that is the backbone of Leeds shopping district. The Leeds Waterfront has recently been revamped and now it hosts the subterranean retail centre on Granary Wharf.
